Inside Edelman is an ongoing series that spotlights our colleagues who are doing extraordinary work across our network. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #BreaktheBias and throughout the month of March, we’ll be highlighting strong voices from across the network who are championing women in the workforce, re-defining what “success” means and committing to a more gender equal world.

What does the word “success” mean to you?

I believe success is relative at every stage of life. Today, as a leader, it means I'm able to lead with empathy, ensuring the wellbeing, progress and prosperity of my team and the organization I'm currently serving.

What advice do you have for women with regard to finding “success”?

Please don't chase success. Instead, focus on gaining respect. Your body of work and how well you treat others will automatically be reflected in how your success story is defined.

Have you ever experienced bias in your career? If so, how did you overcome it?

We all grow up and face various biases in our lives. I've been fortunate enough to have been brought up to be a strong-willed individual. This is why I believe gender bias has had a limited effect on my journey.

What steps do you think women need to take to #BreaktheBias?

Believe in your dreams and abilities. Stand tall as an individual and you'll experience that you don't necessarily need to play the protagonist to break the bias.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I'd tell myself to constantly remain in a “Beta State of Mind”: trying, failing, learning, growing, and then trying all over again. I think this helps ensure you are always trying new things and learning from them, without the fear of “what if?”.
