In a year where the world has been paralyzed by the global pandemic, how have brands fared? We’ve seen brands that have risen to the challenge and enjoyed success and loyalty, while others have been diluted and, in some cases, crushed. The need for brands to stand for their values as much as their value, to be transparent and to contribute to society have all increased. Fundamentally, brands have to be trusted to survive and thrive.

Few categories have been more impacted than retail, social media and technology. As these sectors face radical transitions and new levels of consumer exposure, trust has become the binding principle behind growth and the ability to connect with consumers.

As the world’s leading authority on Trust, we invite you to hear from today's leading marketing voices, whose brands have had the greatest impact and been at the forefront of shaping business, purpose and culture, to discuss our latest Brand Trust research.

Amanda O'Neal

AMANDA O'NEAL

Director, Brand Social Media & Employer Branding, Microsoft

Amanda earned her first promotion when she moved from the McDonald’s counter to drive-thru. Little did she know, it was the start of a journey of understanding people. See, when you take orders in a drive-thru, you have to be ready to walk with the customer. Customers don’t all articulate in the same way, emotions and feelings vary, there are cultural nuances and idiosyncrasies that speak to their core values, plus an expectation that the McDonald’s “friend” on the other side of the intercom will be non-judgmental and understanding. In a matter of seconds, you have to build a common language to succeed. Today, this early life lesson is reflected in the experimentation Amanda’s team has undertaken through employer branding and social media – the idea of relating to our customers in a way that makes them feel like Microsoft is a friend.
