To celebrate Pride 2024, we are focusing on “Every Day Pride”, the daily experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals in all aspects of their lives. For this special Pride edition of Inside Edelman, we profiled members of our global community to highlight their unique experiences and point of view as they reflect on what it means to be LGBTQIA+ within the firm and beyond.

What does "Everyday Pride" mean to you?

Everyday Pride is getting to celebrate all that makes you you, 24/7, 365 days. Whether that be hanging out with your queer friends, honoring your queer ancestors, or practicing self-care. Everyday Pride is pride not just in June but every day, because you are a gift to this world and adding some much-needed sparkle!

In your opinion, are non-LGBTQIA+ allies fully aware of the obstacles faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals? How can they raise their awareness?

Honestly no, I think there are so many little things that LGBTQIA+ people have to deal with that go unnoticed. Being a good ally is not expecting your LGBTQIA+ friends, family, and co-workers to educate and teach you, but making an effort to learn about the things that make up their everyday and advocating or teaching on their behalf. It can be something as simple as correcting a pronoun on behalf of your queer co-worker that can make a world of difference.

What is something about Pride Month that brings you joy? Is there an event or activity you look forward to every year?

I host a Pride brunch at my house (correctly named The DollHouse). Seeing all my friends being completely themselves and having a blast while enjoying mimosas and food that my roomie and I lovingly prepared brings me so much joy.

How do you find ways to celebrate your identity on a daily basis?

For me, it’s the little things – whether it’s being around my queer brothers, sisters, and siblings kikiing and having a blast, or consuming new queer media. I just take time to be in the community and feel seen.

What advice would you give to young LGBTQIA+ individuals who are just starting their careers?

You are worthy of occupying any space you are in. Your insight, skills, and lived experiences are needed in the workforce. Thank you for showing up as your authentic self every day; we are better off with you here!
